Kentik Tools Bring New Metrics to Member Dashboard

In January of 2017 the Chesconet NOC began utilizing the services offered by the cloud-based SaaS company Kentik. The Kentik Detect platform gives Chesconet the ability to turn network data, like netflow, into valuable real-time intelligence. This platform includes network traffic analysis, DDoS detection and mitigation, planning and peering analytics, and network performance monitoring.

Kentik provides our network engineers with an off-site DDoS detection and mitigation solution that seamlessly integrates and expands upon the DDoS mitigation systems that live locally on Chesconet. This adds another layer of defense between attackers and Chesconet members. The Kentik data explorer allows our engineers to determine the nature and severity of the attack in seconds.

Kentik DDoS Detection & Mitigation Overview

At the Spring 2017 quarterly Chesconet member network meeting, Chesconet engineers were proud to introduce the integration of Kentik’s API into the Chesconet Dashboard. This feature gives Chesconet members greater visibility into their network usage and utilization. There are currently eight pre-programmed queries that can be made by a Chesconet member, with time ranges between five minutes and two weeks. A query will return a table and graph for the time range specified by the Chesconet member.
